The Writing Masterclass, our most coveted, is a 4 Saturdays program. In line with requests and an extremely well-received children's class, Ms. Karkaria, veteran journalist, popular columnist, and bestselling author has agreed to conduct a specially curated class for older children & adults, limited to only 10 participants to keep it intimate. Would you like to unleash your mind, think imaginatively, and write with flair? This interactive course covers 10 Mantras and Great Lines, How to find a sunset in a samosa, Tips on the vital art of editing, etc. Spread over 4 Saturdays, you will benefit from Ms. Karkaria’s 40-year experience in the country's topmost journals and as a media trainer in India and abroad. Set exercises will be closely assessed with one-on-one discussions. Note: Classes are currently on sabbatical but do register interest and we will keep you updated about the next class schedule.
Bachi Karkaria is regarded as a game changer for Indian journalism. She created and edited some of The Times of India's most distinctive editions and was the first Indian board member of the Paris based World Editors Forum. She writes two widely followed columns: the satirical `Erratica’ with its cheeky sign-off character, Alec Smart, in the Times of India, and Giving Gyan, which dispenses no nonsense advice to the lovelorn and the life-torn in Mumbai Mirror and its sister editions. Her latest column - Tails from T. Jrode is in the online publication First Post. Her latest non-fiction book, In Hot Blood: The Nanavati Case That Shook India (Juggernaut, 2017) is a critical and commercial success. She is also the author of a number of other bestselling books that have graced the bookshelves of national and international bookstores alike. Ms Karkaria helped set up the Times School of Journalism, Mumbai, in 2011, designing its curriculum and taking classes on City Reporting. She continues to pass on her expertise as faculty of Mumbai's St Paul's Institute of Communication Education. On the invitation of the World Editors Forum, she conducted master classes in Hanoi and Cairo. She is a recipient of the US-based Mary Morgan-Hewitt Award for Lifetime Achievement, a Jefferson Fellow of the East-West Centre, Honolulu, and member of key international media and women's organizations. She has long been a media trainer in India and abroad, and has now begun sharing her expertise in Creative Writing via intensive Master Classes, physical and online. SwitchED is honored and very excited to have Bachi Karkaria onboard as an educator. With her credentials and astounding experience, she brings with her an opportunity to learn under the best in the field of creative writing and journalism. We are hoping to widen our offerings by her shortly, including a specialized class on Media Development, which as illustrated in her profile is an area in which she has tremendous experience.
